Courtney's Health History

At 13, Courtney was first seen by  the Orthopedic Doctor after Pediatrician detected mild scoliosis by exam (Adams Forward Bend Test). At that time:

  • No chronic back pain 
  • Mild scapular pain – Resolved with Physical Therapy 
  • X-ray- Thoracic curve 21: Risser 2 (skeletal growth not complete)

Observation and follow-up; Physical Therapy recommended for scapular pain (unrelated scoliosis)

One Year Later

First Visit

  • No spine pain, no limitation of activities
  • Thoracic curve 33 
  • Impression: Moderate progression
Plan
  • Brace 20 hours a day 

Second Visit

One month later:

  • Brace uncomfortable, not wearing

  • Refit brace 

Third Visit

Six months later:

  • See’s surgeon for 2nd opinion 
  • Discomfort with brace – not wearing 
  • No discomfort without brace, dancing 4-5 hours/day
  • Thoracic curve 53; Risser 4 (skeletal growth complete)
  • Moderate to severe scoliosis
