Fear avoidance beliefs, depression, anxiety, low self-efficacy, and catastrophizing all represent important treatment targets for chronic pain patients. Not treating these results in sub optimal outcomes.

Social factors that intensify the pain experience may include lack of social support, and social isolation. These factors should also be addressed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for chronic pain.
