Instruments

There are four instruments that you need to familiarize yourself with in this module to rate pain.

  1. NRS is a numeric rating scale for pain from zero to ten where 0 is no pain and 10 is worst pain imaginable.
  2. Quick Dash is a shortened version of the disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand measure. It is a questionnaire about function for the arm.
  3. FPS or functional pain scale is a questionnaire that asks about pain during functional activities. It has a score of zero: no pain, to 5: is pain intolerable with all activities.
  4. Opioid risk tool or ORT is a tool to determine the possible risk for addiction prior to prescribing an opioid in pain management.
