  1. Discuss Idiopathic Scoliosis as an example of postoperative pain management
  2. Compare and contrast preoperative education and preparation of the patient (medical and psychological) for posterior spinal fusion
  3. Evaluate the benefits and modalities used (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) for perioperative multimodal analgesia for posterior spinal fusion
  4. Appraise the post-discharge analgesia and recovery of adolescents after posterior spine fusion, including issues of opioid prescription

Description

This module discusses the appropriate approach to the management of pain with adolescents undergoing surgery for idiopathic scoliosis. We  present information on ways to optimally manage postoperative pain and potential challenges with pain and its treatment.
